The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings made are now 17-0 on the 2012-13 basketball season. The Vikings traveled to Waterloo, where they defeated Columbus Catholic, 77-52.

The Vikings led 19-9 after the first quarter, and 44-16 at halftime. Max Griffith made five of six 3-point attempts and led the Vikings with 20 points. Kelyn Rickels added 13; Grant Sagan, 12; and Max Kearns, 11. Kearns also added nine assists and Sagan hauled in 10 of the team's 25 rebounds. See complete stats HERE.

The Vikings travel to Benton Community on Friday. They host Williamsburg and Anamosa next Tuesday and Friday and finish the regular season at home Feb. 12 vs. Oelwein.

I do not know the complete basketball history in Vinton but it seems as if we have won at least three conference West championships since the 2004-2005 season as recent as last year.I don't know if they have ever played a true championship, west v.s. east since they did the conference split? I'm sure someone can probably check to see if that is accurate.
