· 8:36am May 14th, 2014
The VS boys golf team placed 6th at the WaMaC Super meet Monday in Manchester. The boys played at Pin Oak Links in tough conditions including about an hour rain delay. The tournament started in a drizzle then turned to a downpour causing the golfers to be pulled from the course to one of four safe shelters around the course. After the lightning was gone, the course was tough with winds and thick rough holding the fresh water.
West Delaware playing on their home course won the title shooting 302. Williamsburg was 2nd with 316. Solon placed 3rd with 326. Dewitt was 4th with 328 and Mt. Vernon placed 5th with 329. The Vikings came in 6th with 332, which improved, from last years 8th place finish. The rest of the conference finished this way:
7th Dyersville 336
8th Western Dubuque 343
9th Marion 346
10th Anamosa 350
11th Clear Creek 351
12th Independence 355
13th Benton 360
14th Center Point 397
15th Maquoketa 408
The Vikings had two players earn All Conference status Monday. Daniel Janssen carded a 77 to place seventh and earn first team all conference. Tyler Stuek shot 83 and earned honorable mention all conference placing 19th. The medalist for the conference was Bryce Frick of West Delaware shooting a three over 74. He was joined by teammate Clayton Larsen as the runner up medalist shooting 74.
