The Viking golf team was at home Friday for a dual with South Tama. The Viking carded their best score of the year shooting 159 while defeating South Tama who carded a 171. Medalist Daniel Janssen who carded a 39 won the medal on a card back over teammate Austin Bohnsack. Austin’s 39 won him his first medal on varsity as the runner-up medalist. Bryce Shaw had another string performance shooting 40. Tyler Stueck and Grant Noren had 41 and Dylan Rippel shot 43.
The Viking JV squad also won their dual defeating South Tama 175 to 236. Freshman Cole Smith led all scores firing a 42 and his best round of the year. The Vikings had several JV golfers on the course Friday and many turned in personal bests: Austin Carolus 43, David Bray 49, Brian Stainbrook 46, Quintin Guenther 44, Kyle Jorgenson 48, Aaron Henderson 58, Caleb Bendull 52, Aaron Ohlsen 53, Jacob O’Brien 52, Clark Robertson 60, Jordan Schoettmer 53.
Wamac: Noren finishes third after tie-breaker
The Vikings Took their momentum and placed third at the WaMaC West Divisional meet Monday at Wildcat. The Viking shot 163 and tied Benton Community, however, Benton won the second place spot based on the fifth score. They finished just out of first place as well by 3 strokes as Marion won the meet shooting 160.

6th place - Independence 182
7th place – Center Point Urbana 195
The meet has an exciting ending with a 5-hole playoff between 3 golfers who shot 37 for their day. One of the golfers was a Viking, Grant Noren. After the crowd followed the players and as the course got dark, Zach Buch from Williamsburg won 1st place. Ian Kelly of Marion won 2nd place and Grant Noren was third.
The Vikings won two more medals. Tyler Stueck placed 7th shooting 41 and Austin Carolus earned his first varsity medal carding a 42 and placing 10th. Other place winners were: 4th Jeremy Schnieders (MAR) 38, 5th Hunter Livermore (BC) 38, 6th Sam Buch (WB) 40, 8th Brennen Pace (BC) 41, 9th Cam Touro (BC) 42, and tied for 10th Spencer Pink (IND) 42, Jacob Klingeman (CCA) 42, Daly Quinn (MAR) 42, Luke Stoll (BC) 42.
The Vikings have their last meet of the year Thursday against Anamosa at Wildcat with all Vikings on the roster in action. The Conference Super Meet and sectionals will be next week as the Vikings try to improve their 15-8 record.
