The revived Vinton-Shellsburg High School bowling team is celebrating a successful first season and even sending one competitor to the State event next week.
Alyssa Bunge led the Vikette girls at Tuesday's District meet, rolling a 193/198/391. She is one of 18 girls who will compete in the Class 1A individual cometition.
Coach Amber Pattee said it is exciting to see Alyssa achieve this accomplishment in her first year of high school bowling.
"She has worked really hard and is becoming better each and every day. What an awesome job," says the coach.
The Viking bowlers also "competed very well for it being their first year and first district event," says the coach.
"I hope they are as proud of themselves as I am of them," she said.
The State tournament take place Monday, Feb. 24, at 10 am at Plaza Lanes in Des Moines.
"I am so proud of the whole team this year," says Coach Pattee. "They have definitely exceeded my expectations and I look forward to working with them next year."
