News :: Pink Night: Viking, Vikettes raising money to fight breast cancer
· 9:50am January 28th, 2013
The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings basketball team raised well over $1,000 to help fight breast cancer with their Pink Night event last Friday. The girls basketball team is now finalizing their Pink Night event which takes place this Friday, Feb. 1. Viking Coach Joe Johnson said the money totals are still being computed.
Both the Vikings and Stormin' Pointer players wore pink warm-up t-shirts, which were sold by silent auction. Many spectators also bought pink VS or CPU shirts and wore them to the game. Even the referees used pink whistles.
The girls' Pink Night will include the introduction of many local cancer survivors during the half-time of the varsity game. The girls will also wear pink and even use a pink basketball for this annual event which has taken place for several years.
All funds raised will go toward the mammography services at Virginia Gay Hospital.
