Rex Shepherd and Ken Silker were among veterans setting up flagpoles in honor of Memorial Day.

Area veterans invite all local residents to celebrate Memorial Day with them this Monday, May 26.

The local traditions begin with ceremonies at cemeteries at 8 a.m. The bridge ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. with the 11 a.m. service at Veterans Park.

The veterans will begin on the west side of Vinton, at Maplewood Cemetery at 8 a.m., then go to St. Mary's Cemetery for a short ceremony there before going to Evergreen Cemetery at around 8:30.

Bear Creek service

A service is also scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Bear Creek Cemetery southeast of Brandon.

Mt. Auburn

MEMORIAL DAY REMINDER OPEN TO THE PUBLIC:
10:30AM Memorial Day ceremony at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery followed by service at the Mt. Auburn Methodist Church. The Methodist women will be serving lunch at the church following the service. Donations accepted.
