Spring weather has allowed rebuilding of the IBSSS roof to resume.

The long winter was another factor in the completion of the roof on the Iowa Braille and Sight-Saving School. The roof, virtually destroyed by the July 11, 2011 wind storm, has been under construction for the past year. Workers recently resumed work, framing the structure and placing metal in preparation of installing the slate-style composite roofing tiles.

The new roof system is made of steel with a simulated slate shingle exterior that will closely match appearance of the roof as it was in the early 1900’s.

The project is estimated to cost $2.8 million.
