The Red Cedar Chapter of the Izaak Walton League is offering a free basic gun safety course this month.

On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Ikes member Bill Keller will lead a course offering basic information about the kinds of guns and how to handle each safely.

The free session begins at 6 p.m. and will last until approximately 8 p.m.

“We will be discussing basic firearm safety – what we mean is how to safely unload a firearm and the four basic rules of firearm handling,” said Keller.

The session will also define the difference between handguns, rifles and shotguns.

There will be no shooting lessons, said Keller.

“This is just about how to handle a firearm safely, and what to do if you happen to find one – how to get control of it and make it safe.”

The class, said Keller, would be especially helpful to those who are unfamiliar with firearms, and families with children.
