This Friday, the Above The Influence Coalition will be holding a football tailgate for students at the Middle School. During this even we will have music provided by Tyler Henkle, free hotdogs off the grill, deserts and some games out on the lawn. This event is open to anyone who wants to come have some fun before the start of our Homecoming football game.

The Vinton American Legion will be having a Fish Fry Fundraiser on Friday October 9 from 4:00 to 7:00. We will be serving, Fish Fillets, Baked Beans, Baked Potato or Potato Salad, Cole Slaw and Cake. All you can eat while supplies last. The bar will be open. Adults: $8.

Saturday, October 17, 2015 10am. Join the Prairie States Mushroom Club as we explore Rodgers Park for fall mushrooms. We will meet at the Nature Center, then car pool to the end of Rodgers Park Road to hunt for all kinds of fungi. Wear appropriate clothing as we will be going off trail. Bring a basket or bag to hold your fungal finds, and a small pocket knife to harvest mushrooms.

High school students from all over eastern Iowa, including V-S students and members of the new VS FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) are planning on attending the "Fields of Faith" event Wednesday evening at the Union High School football field in La Porte City. The event is from 7-9 p.

The 4th Annual Flaughless 5K, a memorial event for U.S. Army soldier and Vinton native Dan Flaugh, is five days away and on track for meeting – and exceeding – the fundraising goal of at least $10,000 for Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). This year’s event will also have Jeremiah Pauley, a representative from WWP, speak at the event.

Breast Cancer Survivors will meet MONDAY, October 12 at 5:30 p.m. for dinner and conversation at Windsor Manor in the dining room. Kathy Lariviere will provide the program and talk about her book, Laugh with Kathy which she wrote over the course of her long breast cancer treatment. Ms. Lariviere uses humor to deal with this journey, and it promises to be entertaining.

Coming soon to a Harvest Potluck near you: “Good Morning Vietnam—2015” The program for the Center Point Historical Society’s annual community supper will be a slide show by local retired businessman and Vietnam War vet Jon Sholes. He’ll show slides of the trip he and his wife Donna took to Vietnam and Cambodia in August.
