A new AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps team, Hickory 6, started their first project at the Benton County Conservation Board helping them build an outdoor nature classroom from September 18 to September 19, 2012.
Hickory 6 used 60 tons of gravel and limestone to build a quarter mile trail connecting the front of the building to Rodgers Park and the back of the building to a relaxing area for anyone to sit and play in. They also stripped and sanded cedar logs for inside displays, completed outdoor displays, and trail work.
Hickory 6 is excited to return to see the remaining progress and do an Independent Service Project to help with anything they can on their own time. The Benton County Nature Center is expected to open to the public in spring 2013.
